Design Ideas®, creator of affordable and innovative accessories for the home and office, unveiled its LumenaeTM candle today – a new candle that glows with every color of the rainbow from inside, while also lighting like a conventional pillar candle at the wick. LumenaeTM are candles that illuminate surroundings in an entirely new way with a Light Emitting Diode (LED) in the base, all for under $20. Each white wax, unscented LumenaeTM pillar candle has a hollow in its base fitted with a fireproof dome that houses a battery-powered LED. The surface of each candle has a special “ice” finish that adds character and depth to the LED light. A special holiday edition is further enhanced with a snowflake pattern carved into the surface and a coat of weathered-white. The wick of LumenaeTM candles ends safely before reaching the LED hollow. Wax refills (hollow wax pillars without the LED) are available for half the price of the original candle, and the LED battery may be replaced with any standard 9-volt battery. Perleberg, a German entrepreneur known as the inventor of LED jewelry in the 1970s and subsequently for his dazzling public light show celebrations, developed LumenaeTM in 2002 when he realized how the wax of a candle enhanced light from an LED.
